Five Friday Favorites 10/5/18
It’s been a while since I have posted, so I figured that I would get back into the groove of things with something small and simple: I’m going to share some of my current favorite things.
Personally, I think a person’s favorites show a lot about a person, so I hope you enjoy getting to know me a little bit more as I get back into the swing of things.
1. My Current Mindset
There have been some moments lately where I would say that I have experienced some lows, which is normal, but it made me uncomfortable that they were happening so often. Recently I took the time to sit down and self-reflect on these moments, and I realized that I have been sitting in a mindset of doubt and guilt.
With a little conscious work, I have made some changes and I’ve noticed the difference. While it’s good to be realistic, it also helps to remember your strengths and your worth, and (cliché, I know) that no one is perfect. It also helps to surround yourself with good people, and to not dwell on the bad things too much. The bad things still creep in sometimes, but not as often as they did before. I feel happier, and more at peace with where I’m at in my life right now.
2. This Season
This one probably isn’t so much of a surprise, since I also wrote about this last year.
Whenever someone asks me what my favorite season is, I always say the holiday season, which starts, in my mind, on October first. I know that some people think that it’s not a season, and that I’m totally buying into corporate America, but I just love all the festivities that come with the holidays.
The spirit of the season appeals to me: the music, the decorations, all of the themed events. It’s all too fun to miss out on and be a Scrooge about.
It’s not a new favorite, but more of an old one that I remembered recently. I used to go all the time in middle school, and lately when I go, it’s usually with my sisters, who would rather be anywhere else. The result is that I would grab what I wanted, and then checkout so that they didn’t have to wait on me.
Last week, though, I decided to go alone when I had some time between classes. It may have been only for a couple hours, but they were the greatest couple hours of that week. I was relaxed, at peace, and very happy with being in that moment. I’ve made it a commitment to try and do it more often, since it was so good for me.
4. Dirtee Laundry T-Shirt
I found this shirt at Ross, and I’m so happy I did because I got it for less than $10. It’s not my usual style, but the moment I put it on, I became obsessed with it.
The color of the shirt is beautiful, it’s so comfortable to wear, and I love the inspirational quote that’s running down the back. I loved the shirt so much that I contemplated getting a tattoo for a minute, until I remembered that spinal tattoos are probably very painful with all the nerves there.
So that you’re not wondering, the quote is, “I’m too grateful to be hateful. I’m too blessed to be stressed.”
To go along with the theme, I thought I would also share five songs that I have on heavy rotation right now.
- “Knees” by Bebe Rexha
- “Punches (with LP)” by Noah Cyrus
- “I Don’t Wanna Love You Anymore” by LANY
- “I’m With You” by Vance Joy
- “Jump (with Trippie Redd)” by Julia Michaels
That’s all from me (for now). I hope that you found something new to enjoy as much as I do. I’ll work on writing more soon (that is my first passion, after all), but maybe you can share with me what you would like to read about in the comments below!
